Heads of foreign states in Vilnius to congratulate Lithuania on its birthday

 VILNIUS – All invited heads of the friendly neighboring states and other foreign dignitaries came to congratulate Lithuanian people on the centennial of the restoration of the state of Lithuania and to join the celebrations.
The festive events are attended by Presidents of the Baltic states that will celebrate the centennials this year as well – President Raimonds Vējonis of Latvia and President Kersti Kaljulaid of Estonia. President Andrzej Duda of Poland is also on a visit to Lithuania. On February 17, President Dalia Grybauskaitė and President Andrzej Duda will have a meeting. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany has also come to Lithuania. The country that preserved the Act of Independence of February 16 is a reliable partner of Lithuania in the EU and NATO. German troops lead NATO battalion in Lithuania and Germany has assigned the greatest number of staff to it.
In the morning of February 16, President Sauli Niinistö of Finland, re-elected for the second term a few weeks ago, and the President Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson of Iceland, the first state that recognized the re-established independence of Lithuania, flew in to Lithuania. The festive events are also attended by Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, the strategic partner in the region.
President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine and President Giorgi Margvelashvili of Georgia came to congratulate Lithuania as well. Lithuania has always supported the territorial integrity of these countries and their aspiration to become part of the united European family. The President of Ukraine made Dalia Grybauskaitė a very special present of a copy of Lutsk duplicate of the Lithuanian Statute of 1566. This Statute, preserved in the National Library of Ukraine, brought about major administrative-political reforms in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania: administrative-territorial division of the country into counties and expanded economic and political rights of the gentry.
The festive events, dedicated to the centennial of the restoration of the state of Lithuania are also attended by Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission.
