Lithuanian first for Dekpol

LITHUANIA Dekpol has completed the construction of a 20,000 sqm door and window production plant in Lithuania for UAB DOV Investicija, a subsidiary of Danish manufacturer Dovista – its first project in the country and the first large-scale contract the Polish general contractor has carried out abroad.

The app. PLN 70 mln contract represents 12 pct of the total revenues of the group in 2017, with the company now expecting to win more contracts in the country. The plant, which has two halls and an office building connected to both, is situated in the Marijampolė FEZ (free economic zone). The project also involved the construction of a central boiler room, a guardroom, internal roads, external squares, rain water drainage along with a retention reservoir and a pumping station, along with other networks (including sanitation, IT and water and power supply).

“This was Dekpol’s first project constructed on such a large scale outside Poland. General contracting in Lithuania is impossible for external companies without special permits. That is why we have had to obtain the appropriate qualifications – and in addition to this our management staff have obtained Lithuanian building qualifications by passing an exam at the Construction Products Certification Centre in Vilnius. It was also necessary to hire technical staff in Lithuania together with the site manager to carry out work outside Poland,” explains Mariusz Chwalisz, a project manager at Dekpol.

In order to carry out construction work and operations in Lithuania, it was also necessary to establish a subsidiary, LT Statyba. “We are convinced that the success of this project and the experience we have gained will pay off. We envisage the acquisition and execution of further contracts in Lithuania,” adds Mariusz Tuchlin, the CEO of Dekpol.
