VILNIUS – Over a 100 films from Europe and beyond will be screened during the 15th European film forum Scanorama, which got underway in Vilnius on Thursday.
The organizers say that the program of Scanorama, which will run until Nov. 26, includes the winning films from this year’s Cannes and Berlin film festivals.
The festival will also feature the Lithuanian premiere of Stebuklas/Miracle on Nov. 18, which stars Hollywood actor Vyto (Vytautas) Ruginis in his Lithuanian film debut. The movie made it’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Sept. and will open in cinemas nationwide in Lithuania on Dec. 8.
Grazina Arlickaite, the founder and art director of Scanorama, says that this year’s program puts a strong focus on German films, a result of long-term cooperation with the Goethe-Institut.
Almost half of this year’s films were directed by women. Scanorama will host a special discussion on “Women in the Film Industry”, which will include Egle Vertelyte, the director of Stebuklas/Miracle.
