Usackas to seek Lithuania’s HU-LCD support for presidential bid

Lithuanian diplomat Vygaudas Usackas says he will seeks the country’s opposition conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats’ support in his bid to be elected the country’s president next year.

He will vie for HU-LCD nomination with MP Ingrida Simonyte.

“I will take part in the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats’ primary elections,” Usackas told journalists on Monday.

His statement came after Simonyte announced earlier in the day her decision to take part in the HU-LCD primaries.

A bit earlier, economist Gitanas Nauseda announced his decision to run for president as an independent candidate, without seeking HU-LCD’s support.
